چکیده

Abstract This paper explores the use of a novel tuned-inerto-viscous-hysteretic-damper (TIVhD) for reducing seismic response multi-storey building structures. The TIVhD is an inerter-based damper device consisting linear hysteretic connected in series with inerto-viscous damper. layout similar to that tuned-inerter-hysteretic-damper (TIhD) additional viscous damping element parallel inerter. design motivated by fact most inerter designs cannot completely remove parasitic due friction, fluid compression, etc. Moreover, considered be more realistic approach when material present. In this paper, installed between ground and first-storey tuned firstly assumed coefficient zero. Then other three parameters are optimised following tuning procedure TIhD based on fixed-point theory fine-tuning targeting first vibration mode structure. optimum finally obtained using two scenarios: (1) amplifying its stiffness while keeping inertance constant; (2) constant. Both scenarios aiming at same reduction level given TIhD. Finally, effectiveness structural demonstrated both harmonic base excitation cases time domain. has been made possible newly developed domain via Hilbert transform reversal technique.

Passive vibration suppression using inerters for a multi-storey building structure

This paper investigates the use of inerters for vibration suppression of a multistorey building structure. The inerter was proposed as a two-terminal replacement for the mass element, with the property that the applied force is proportional to the relative acceleration across its terminals. It completes the force-current mechanical-electrical network analogy, providing the mechanical equivalent...

Enhancement of a tuned mass damper for building structures using fuzzy logic

Over the past 10 years there has been a growing need to introduce closed-loop control technology for vibration suppression of buildings subject to wind or earthquake disturbances. This paper deals with the investigation of the effectiveness of a fuzzy logic based time variable damping tuned mass damper (TMD) on a building structure undergoing free and forced vibrations. The uniqueness of this a...

The Multi-Degree-of-Freedom Tuned-Mass Damper for Suppression of Single-Mode Vibration Under Random and Harmonic Excitation∗

Formulas for the optimal design of single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) tuned-mass dampers (or dynamic vibration absorbers) for SDOF structures under random and harmonic excitations have been available for many years. Whenever an absorber body is attached to a primary system, there is potential for utilization of motion in more than one degree of freedom of the body relative to the primary system. I...

VISCOUS DAMPER PLACEMENT OPTIMIZATION IN CONCRETE STRUCTURES USING COLLIDING BODIES ALGORITHM AND STORY DAMAGE INDEX

Dampers can reduce structural response under dynamic loads. Since dampers are costly, the design of structures equipped with dampers should make their application economically justifiable. Among the effective cost reduction factors is optimal damper placement. Hence, this study intended to find the optimal viscous damper placement using efficient optimization methods. Taking into account the no...

Vibration suppression of cables using tuned inerter dampers

This paper considers the use of a tuned inerter damper (TID) system for suppressing unwanted cable vibrations. The TID consists of an inerter, a device that exerts a force proportional to relative acceleration, coupled with a parallel spring and damper. It may be thought of as similar to a tuned-mass-damper, but requiring two terminals. As a two terminal device, the performance of the TID is co...
